Welcome To Our
Nursery
Little Stars Nursery
In September 2017 we welcomed our newest members to Longstone School when we opened our new nursery: Longstone Little Stars.
We are a dual day nursery with classes in the morning and the afternoon.
Our name was chosen by our Student Council, and they even ran a competition to design our new sign.

Nursery Environment
Our purpose built nursery classroom has been designed to facilitate a stimulating learning environment for our nursery pupils.
In addition to the main classroom area;
we have lots of fun building, and climbing in the blue room.
We also enjoy playing outside in our enclosed play area.
Nursery Provision
Our nursery staff comprises of the nursery teacher and two classroom assistants.
Our pupils are further supported through regular sessions with the Speech and Language Therapist and the Occupational Therapist.
Throughout the year we have worked alongside other professionals and agencies such as The ASD Advisory Service and Barnardos.
We look forward to continuing this further as the year progresses.
Learning Through Play
We deliver the nursery curriculum through a range of varied learning opportunities.
This year we have explored topics including:
Nursery Rhymes, People Who help us, Winter, On the farm and Going on a Bear Hunt.
Meeting The Needs of The Individual
Through discussions with parents and our observations of the children we tailor the support offered to meet the needs of the individual child.
Where appropriate we use individual schedules to support the children’s understanding of their day.
We also strive to support the development of attention and communication skills. These include strategies such as; PECS (picture exchange communication) and Attention Autism.
